CHAPpy Feet Challenge
We hope this message finds you and your family together and well. Please know that the staff and Board of Directors of Children's Healing Art Project (CHAP) are sending you our very best as everyone works to navigate the changes brought on by COVID-19.As an organization dedicated to children and families, their health and healing is of the utmost importance to CHAP. Our thoughts are particularly with those with compromised immune systems, children who must remain in their hospital rooms with limited visitors and little to do, and with the dedicated medical staff at our partner hospitals who provide care while trying to prevent the spread of the virus. During this unique time, CHAP will not waver in our mission of bringing the healing power of art to children and families facing medical challenges. Instead, CHAP is doing what we do best -- getting creative. We would like to share some new ways CHAP is supporting children and families while our in-hospital programs are on hold and the CHAP studio is closed: Our dedicated teaching artists and volunteers are currently unable to make their one-on-one hospital visits, so CHAP is assembling CHAP Art Packs full of art supplies and inspiring messages. The packs will be delivered to area hospitals for distribution to any child who wants one. CHAP's monthly Art Clubs (usually held at the studio) are continuing via real-time video conferencing so children and families can enjoy making art together. The response has been tremendous. CHAP In a Box deliveries of fun art supplies will be mailed as planned to the homes of children that CHAP previously met through our hospitals programs. Nearly every day, CHAP is posting CHAPpy art projects that kids of all ages can do together, using items from around the house. Visit us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Please share your own ideas, as well. CHAP believes that art heals, and now is definitely a time when healing, creativity, joy, distraction, play, and a little messiness can make a huge difference. So, until we are able to once again provide art experiences in-person, CHAP will continue to use every means possible to deliver the healing power of art to children, families, and the communities we serve. How you can help: With the current suspension of our usual services and activities, CHAP's funding sources and donations have significantly decreased. So that we may continue to provide for children and families in the coming months and beyond, you can help with a donation, big or small. Please click here to support our work. Thank you again for being part of CHAP's amazing community of support. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email Barb directly at barb@chappdx.org. We would love to hear from you.Meanwhile, on behalf of CHAP, we send endless gratitude and wishes for good health. May we all see each other again very soon! With INSPIRATION + CREATIVITY + JOY + HEALING, Lori Long, President, Board of Directors Barb McDowell, Executive Director
